> SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — The upcoming initial public offering of Zynga has raised enough anticipation that one Wall Street analyst couldn’t wait for the company’s actual debut to initiate his rating on the provider of online social games here....
Arvind Bhatia of Sterne Agee started the company with an underperform rating, or the equivalent of sell, and set a $7 target price on the company’s stock. Zynga is expected to price its public offering on Thursday night, with an expected price range of $8.50 to $10 a share. The stock is expected to begin trading on Friday morning. It’s rare that analysts issue ratings on companies prior to their public debuts. In an interview, Bhatia said that, for several reasons, “the implied valuation of the IPO is not justified.” He added that he wanted to examine the valuation of the business outside of the swings the stock may get on its debut. “We fully expect the company to get a pop on Day One, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look at the real value of the company,” Bhatia said. In his report, Bhatia based much of his view about Zynga on research that suggests the company’s top games are losing daily average users, or DAUs, at faster rates that in the past. He also says Zynga’s revenue bookings are also on a downward path. Bhatia pointed to “FarmVille,” Zynga’s flagship game, and its relatively new “CityVille” as examples of how the company’s titles are drawing less traffic over comparable periods. Zynga leads big IPO weekZynga is getting a lion's share of attention but other tech companies, like Jive Software, are also getting into the IPO party, Benjamin Pimentel reports on digits.
“Zynga likes to tout that the initial traffic for ‘CityVille’ was huge, and if you index it to ‘FarmVille,’ the traffic was almost double,Posted at 10:23 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)
